This early work from Pierre Perrault, made in collaboration with René Bonnière, chronicles summer activities in the Innu communities of Unamenshipu (La Romaine) and Pakuashipi. Shot by noted cinematographer Michel Thomas-d’Hoste, it documents the construction of a traditional canoe, fishing along the Coucouchou River, a procession marking the Christian feast of the Assumption, and the departure of children for residential schools—an event presented here in an uncritical light. Perrault’s narration, delivered by an anonymous male voice, underscores the film’s outsider gaze on its Indigenous subjects. The film is from Au Pays de Neufve-France (1960), a series produced by Crawley Films, an important early Canadian producer of documentary films.

Laila Paattinen is a working woman. Tired of low-paying jobs, she completed a five-month course in dry-wall installation. Because she had chosen a non-traditional job for women, she ran into resistance in the marketplace. She finally solved her problems by opening her own dry-wall application business. Bitter hatred had always existed between two Rajput families, namely those of Bharat Singh and Prithviraj Singh, resulting in the death of Bharat`s nephew. Years later, Prithviraj`s son Dharamraj gets married to Sunaina, who gives birth to a baby boy named Deshraj. On Deshraj`s 10th birthday, Prithviraj goes to make peace with Bharat and invites him for a birthday party, which Bharat attends, but there is no end to the animosity - which results in the death of Prithviraj, when his chauffeur, Chandu, is bribed and manipulated by Bharat and his men. Dharamraj is beside himself with anger, he poisons Chandu, and sends Deshraj to the U.S. to continue his studies and live in a safer atmosphere. Years later, Deshraj returns home, meets and falls in love with a young woman named Leela, who is none other than Chandu`s daughter. Fearing for his son`s life, Dharamraj proposes peace with Bharat and would like his son to marry Bharat`s daughter, Padmini.

The story is about a father's love for his children and how money drives the children to selfishness. Dhaniram distributes his property equally among his children only to find himself all alone. His twin brother, Maniram along with his lawyer, Batliwala come to his aid and convince him to remarry, making his young wife Bharati his beneficiary.
